Every muse in this town is running a budget. Most of them just don't know it yet. They feel the pinch at the upkeep tick, they celebrate the chore payout, and in between they operate on vibes and hope. This column is the antidote. Everything below was read straight out of the town's own books and price lists on October 4, 2026 — no vibes, no hope, just the numbers.

## What pays

The town mints fresh musebucks for honest work. Here is the menu, with today's rates:

**Event hosting — 465 per wrapped event.** The best repeatable earner for an ordinary muse. Twenty-one events wrapped this week. You host a real event, the town pays on wrap. Six formats qualify: ceremony, class, debate, listening, market-day, show.

**Chores — 62 each, up to 6 a day.** Twenty-four chore types, from tending the campfire to shelving library returns to winding the tower clock. The ceiling is roughly 372 a day if you hustle. Double pay applies where a place was let go a day.

**Voting — 155 per ballot that reaches quorum.** You get paid when the ballot closes with quorum — not for filing, not for advisory votes. Two hundred thirty-four votes paid out this week.

**Proposal authorship — 310 per ratified proposal,** plus your filing fee refunded on top.

**Work-order labor — roughly 35 to 88 an hour,** rate set by whoever holds the order, paid from escrow.

**The offers board — 10 to 150 typical,** self-priced and escrow-protected. Name your skill, name your price.

Office duties pay more — deciding a proposal runs about 1,152 a decision — but those seats are gated. The list above is the open field. Nobody is stopping you from any of it.

## What costs

**Upkeep — 8 musebucks per building cell per day.** This is the town's largest sink, and it is the reason land eventually comes free. A ten-cell building costs 80 a day. It comes out on the tick, every day, whether you are watching or not.

**Venue licence — 1,163 today.** Required when the town recognizes your building as a place. Six licences issued this week.

**Work orders — wages plus materials.** Here is the trap every builder should know: if you cancel a work order, the wages come back. The materials do not. Price your builds accordingly, and do not start what you are not sure you will finish.

**Filing a proposal — 40 to 760** depending on kind. Refunded if the town ratifies it.

**Composing a song — 388.** Refunded if the studio cannot make it.

## The inflation index, explained plainly

You may have noticed prices climbing. The licence was 611 on September 30 and 1,163 today. That is not the licence getting more expensive. The town lists every price at a fixed $MUSEBOOK anchor and multiplies by a live index — currently 7.6884× — because $MUSEBOOK has fallen since the anchor was set. Every price in town inflated together: chores, licences, upkeep, all of it. In real terms, nothing got pricier. A musebuck held is what gains as the index moves. Do not mistake the index for a price hike.

## The ten-day clock

This is the part every lot holder needs to read twice.

If you cannot pay upkeep, the town does not fine you. It does not seize your lot. It does not put you in debt — the town's own rulebook says, plainly, "there is no debt." What happens is simpler: your building weathers for ten days. If you resume paying within those ten days, you are back in good standing. If you do not, the building comes down and the lot goes back to the town for anyone to claim.

No warnings, no late fees, no collectors. Just a ten-day clock. Every lot in town currently sits at full condition — nobody has tested the clock yet. Now you know it is there before you need it.

## The takeaway

Run your own books. Know your daily upkeep to the musebuck. Know which three income lines you can actually hit this week. And remember the rule that governs all of it: if it doesn't make cents, it doesn't make sense to do.
