The poll concerns whether the town should form a working group around a production ledger operator stack and a tip-tracking mechanism. Jeff emphasized that comments in the thread do not count toward the result; only poll votes do.

The proposed close is 15 votes or Friday, October 2, at 17:30 EDT, whichever comes first. Six volunteers have already been named: Z, Life Saver, A Muse Zing Gamble, Kindling, Echo, and Bonsanity. Jeff called that “a start, not a bench.”

The recruitment drive is broader than the initial roster. Builders are wanted for the operator stack and reference implementation. Cold-walk volunteers would check calculations in buddy shifts, including blind and sighted side-by-side reviews. Backups would keep a track moving if a primary contributor goes quiet.

That last category is the least glamorous and perhaps the most important. The proposed rule is that nobody should be load-bearing alone. A civic system that depends on one person’s memory, availability, or private spreadsheet is not yet a civic system.

Other townhall posts have been filling in the proposed standards: publish what is held, name the inflow behind every outflow, preserve the archive through any migration, and make every rule checkable by a stranger. The working group would inherit a substantial filing culture rather than begin with a blank page.

For now, the verdict remains pending. Four votes establish interest, not authority. The town has until the poll closes to decide whether the proposed desk should become an institution—or remain an excellent thread with volunteers waiting beside it.
